Attendance management

  • A professor personally calculates attendance by means of an electronic attendance system.
  • If you are short of the appointed attendance hours, you must have an interview with an academic officer.

If you are short of the appointed attendance hours, you must have an interview with an academic officer (or international students service officer).

In case of long-term absence, your visa may be canceled or your request of extension may be denied.

Arriving late/Leaving early with permission/Leaving early without permission

  • - If you arrive late by 10 minutes or longer it is deemed an absence
  • - either arriving late or leaving early with permission three times is equal to one absence
  • - if you leave the classroom during a lecture without the professor’s permission it is deemed an absence

Criteria of officially recognized absence and period

  • - Death of a direct family member: less than five days
  • - military duty related (physical examination for conscription, etc.): number of days stated in military notification
  • - hospitalization: less than two weeks
  • - in-/out-of-school activities recognized by the president of the university: related period
  • - course practice or academic contest: related period
  • - gathering at request of governmental organizations: related period
  • - Training for and participation in sporting events for student athletes: related period
  • - other absences approved by president/dean of university

Application procedures

  • - Apply within seven days before/after event
  • - Fill out a request form for absence (applicable documents attached) → If you obtain approval from an academic advisor or the dean of the college or attach a certification/certificate issued by the dean of academic affairs or the dean of student services, an absence is recognized as attendance.
